STEP-BY-STEP: PART 1
How to Create Animated GIFs in Canva
Before adding an animated GIF to your email newsletter, you'll need to create one. Follow these steps to learn how to create a rotating carousel:
1. In Canva, click on the Create icon in the top left of your screen.
2. In this example, I made the design 600x400px. A width of 600px is typically safe and considered best practice for email newsletters.
3. Within your workspace, click on the timing icon to adjust the image’s duration. Two and a half seconds is a good choice but it’s completely up to you.
4. Drag and drop an image onto the workspace. It can be an image you upload or a stock image.
5. Duplicate your first page by clicking on the 3 dots and selecting Duplicate Page. It’s important that you duplicate the page instead of creating a new one so that it carries over the same timing as the first page.
6. Drag and drop a second image onto the second page. Continue adding new pages and images until you’ve reached your desired amount.
7. Next, we will download the GIF. Click on the Share button in the top right corner. Click on the Download icon. Under File Type, select GIF. Finally, hit Download to save the file to your computer.

How to Add an Animated GIF to and Action Network Email
Now that you have an animated GIF, let's add it to a newsletter in Action Network.
1. Inside your email newsletter, put your cursor in the area you’d like to add the animated GIF. Adding an animated GIF is just like uploading an image. Click on the image icon in the toolbar.
2. In the popup winder, click on the Upload tab followed by Browse. Locate your GIF file and upload it. This will place the GIF inside your email.
Optional: You can make additional edits by clicking on the GIF. These edits include adding:
- Titles and ALT text
- Attribution
- Links
- Position or text alignment
- Custom width
Once you’re done adding your GIF, be sure to save your email.
